While it’s natural to want your baby’s crib to feel as cosy as your bed, blankets, pillows, and furry friends aren’t recommended for infants to sleep with (Thompson, 2019).

Babies are warm, snuggly little things that look even cuter when bundled up in warm, snuggly little blankets. Sometimes you feel like you’re six years old again, toting around your baby wrapped up in a cosy package. But hang on! Now your babies are real, and there are real, important reasons for them to have baby blankets that go far beyond simply looking fancy and cosy. Around three months old, they realise that a mother & baby are two separate beings. Before that, every baby sees the mother as an extension of them. Because of this, the baby will likely panic and get upset when their mother leaves. Being a parent comes with a massive responsibility as your little one cannot speak by themselves. Therefore, it is essential for us to scientifically understand what is required for the comfort and safety of the baby for better development and growth. 1. Teflon- Any piece of garment which has a label saying wrinkle resistant is probably Teflon coated. Such material might be wrinkle-free, but it can catch fire when exposed to heat.
2. Rayon- Many people believe that since Rayon is manufactured using wood pulp is a safe and natural fabric. The truth is that this fabric is harmful as it goes through a chemical treatment during the manufacturing process, which can cause serious health hazards like headache, Nausea, muscle pain & chest pain.
3. Polyester & Nylon- These fabrics are made using Petrochemical based additives that emit Volatile organic compounds, which can cause asthma, allergies and other lung infections in your child.
4. Acrylic- It looks very similar to wool. This material is widely used to manufacture baby clothes since they are way cheaper than wool. The cost factor is also appealing to uninformed parents. Acrylic fabric is manufactured using a combination of various toxic substances, many of which are harmful to babies.
5. Acetate & Triacetate- These fabrics are manufactured using cellulose. Wood fibres are given chemical treatments to get the desired finishing. Research has successfully shown allergies, rashes & even shortness of breath.
