NATURE PROVIDES A FREE LUNCH, BUT WE CAN CONTROL OUR APPETITE

14th September 2022

We all love our children a lot. We always give our best effort to do the best possible things to keep their health & happiness. Healthy eating is an essential aspect of that. We must provide kids with good taste and, of course, all the nutrients. It is crucial for good health, growth & development.

Healthy eating in childhood means they will have less chance of developing chronic diseases like heart disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes & cancer. This means they will feel better and enjoy their lives (Healthy eating for children, 2022).

To stay healthy with adequate weight, children need to eat the right amount of nutrients and stay physically active. The Australian dietary guidelines recommend that children enjoy a wide variety of food from the five categories listed below.

  • Fruit
  • Vegetables, legumes & beans.
  • Cereals (including bread, rice, pasta & noodles)
  • Lean meat, fish or poultry
  • Milk, yogurts, cheese

It is advised that children should limit the intake of foods that contain saturated fat, added salt or added sugar. Most importantly, as our body is made up of 75% water, children should always be encouraged to choose water while drinking (Healthy eating for children, 2022).

Now the question arises how much should we feed the children? Children usually need to eat more as they grow. As a guide, you can follow the below-mentioned quantities.

  • 2 to 3 years: 1 serving of fruit; 2½ serves of vegetables; 4 serves of grains; 1 act of meat/poultry; 1½ serves of dairy
  • 4 to 8 years: 1½ serves of fruit; 4½ serves of vegetables; 4 serves of grains; 1 ½ serves of meat/poultry; 1½ to 2 serves of dairy
  • 9 to 11 years: 2 serves of fruit; 5 serves of vegetables; 4 to 5 serves of grains; 2½ serves of meat/poultry; 2½ to 3 serves of dairy
  • 12 to 13 years: 2 serves of fruit; 5 to 5 ½ serves of vegetables; 5 to 6 serves of grains; 2 ½ serves meat/poultry; 3 ½ serves dairy (Healthy eating for children, 2022).

Care instructions

The bento box will last you a long time.

  • 1. Wash the Bento Box as soon as possible after each use.
  • 2. You must separate all three parts of the Bento Box for each wash, i.e. the outer case, the inner tray and the removable silicone seal insert. A revolutionary new design allows each section to be separated for easy cleaning and drying.
  • 3. Each part of your Bento Box can be washed in the dishwasher (top rack only). They can also be washed by hand
  • 4. To remove any food that may get trapped within the grooves of the silicone seal insert, we recommend that you use a soft brush
  • 5. Dry all parts thoroughly with a clean cloth or paper towel.
  • 6. We highly recommend that even once dry, you should keep the parts separate and store them in a well-ventilated area until ready to use again.

Note: It is not watertight, so it may not prevent the leakage of runnier liquids such as drinks or any excess oils/juices from food items like sundried tomatoes and fruits.
